S.B.S.S. College, Begusarai, originally known as Co-operative College Begusarai, was founded on May 21, 1970, the birthday of Lord Buddha. The college was established through the joint efforts of the people of Begusarai, along with teachers, students, and faculty members of G.D. College, Begusarai. The institution was greatly influenced by the vision and philosophy of Late Biswanath Singh Sharma, a prominent educationist and leader of the co-operative movement in Bihar.

Since its foundation, the college has been committed to upholding its values and maintaining its reputation as an important educational institution in the area. As it was founded on the day celebrating Lord Buddha, a symbol of peace and non-violence (Ahimsa), the college is dedicated to promoting these ideals through education. The aim of the college is not just to educate but to strengthen social bonds and contribute to societal peace.

Located in the industrial belt of North Bihar, the college is acknowledged for its proximity to major public undertakings like IOC Barauni and BTPS Barauni, which have significantly contributed to the industrial growth of the region. The college continually adapts its teaching methods to keep up with the evolving values of society, offering education that aligns with modern standards. It has produced numerous civil servants, professors, doctors, engineers, and social workers.

National Cadet Corps (NCC)

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is a Tri-Services organization that includes the Army, Navy, and Air Force, aiming to groom young people into disciplined and patriotic citizens. The origins of the NCC date back to World War I, when the British created the University Corps to serve as a second line of defense.

After India gained independence, the NCC was formally established on April 16, 1948, through the NCC Act XXXI, 1948, under the Ministry of Defence. The Girls Division was added in 1949, followed by the Air Wing in 1950, and the Naval Wing in 1952. Today, NCC has over 13 lakh cadets across the country. At S.B.S.S. College, NCC was established in 1984 by Major S.K. Bhandari.

National Service Scheme (NSS)

The National Service Scheme (NSS) was launched in 1969, on Mahatma Gandhi's birth centenary, with the aim of developing students' personalities through community service. Today, the NSS involves more than 3.2 million student volunteers from universities and colleges across India. Since its inception, over 3.75 crore students have participated in NSS activities.

At S.B.S.S. College, the NSS is actively functioning under the guidance of Prof. Ramashary Rai, the Program Officer. Some of the recent NSS activities include:

  • Special camp organized from 25th September to 10th December 2012 on various social issues.
  • NSS Day celebrated on 24th September 2012, where volunteers learned about different aspects of social service.
  • Bhagat Singh Jayanti celebrated on 23rd March 2012 with essay, speech, and painting competitions.
  • Seminars on 'Anti-Terrorism Day' (18th May 2012), 'World Pollution Day' (11th July 2012), 'World AIDS Day' (1st December 2012), and 'Lalit Narayan Mishra Jayanti' (2nd February 2014).
  • Blood Donation Day organized on 21st May 2012, where volunteers donated blood.

Library

  • Working Days: The library is open for 237 days a year.
  • Working Hours: From 10 A.M. to 5 P.M.
  • Books and Journals: The library has approximately 19,000 books and subscribes to various scientific and archaeological journals.
