G.M.R.D. College, located in Mohanpur, Samastipur district, Bihar, was established in June 1960 by Mahant Rameshwar Das. Initially affiliated with Bihar University, Muzaffarpur in 1968, it became a Constituent Unit under L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga in 1980. The college was registered under the UGC Act 2F in 1982 and was accredited with a 'C' grade by NAAC in 2005.
Mahant Rameshwar Das, a saint from Garhi Math, had a vision to provide higher education to the underprivileged and backward communities of the region. Despite not being educated himself, he recognized the importance of education for the upliftment of rural people, especially those living in poverty. His dedication led to the establishment of the college near the Ganga River, surrounded by nature, as a means to bring education closer to those who needed it most.
The college faced several challenges over the years, but thanks to the efforts of Mahant Rameshwar Das and a committee of local leaders, including Late Ramdeo Roy, MLA, and others, it became a reality. The Mahant personally sacrificed much to ensure the establishment of this institution.
